Welcome to the online application for the Juniper Summer Writing Institute One-Day Intensives, June 10, 11, 13, & 14. More information on the Institute can be found on our website. If you find that you need more time once you start your application, there is a save draft button at the end of this application form.

As part of celebrating 20 Years of Wild Invention at the Juniper Summer Writing Institute, we asked four of our alumni to lead a special series of One-Day Intensives. Our Alumni-in-Residence will facilitate a day-long deep dive into craft that emulates each alum’s own work and perspectives.

Please review the descriptions of our One-Day Intensives on our website.

The Juniper Summer Writing Institute is an inclusive literary space that welcomes adult poets and writers at all stages of their careers. Acceptance to the Intensives is based upon the strength and promise of the writing sample and the content of the writer's statement.

The scholarship deadline has passed. Self-pay applications will continue to be accepted until our program fills. We encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible!

Eligibility

  • All Juniper Institute participants must be 21 years of age or older by June 9, 2024.
  • International writers are welcome to apply. However, due to the nature of the Institute, we are unable to issue supporting documentation for visas.

Application materials include:

  • Writing sample
  • Writer's Statement
  • NO application fee!

Writing Sample
The strength and promise of your writing sample is the most important component of your application. Send your best work; it needn’t be published, though published work is acceptable. Samples should be saved in one document (doc, docx, pdf, rtf, or txt). Please include your name & email address as a header or footer in each page of the writing sample.

  • 5 pages of poetry (one poem per page) if applying for a poetry Intensive
  • up to 10 pages of fiction (double-spaced) if applying for a fiction Intensive

Writer's Statement

The Juniper One-Day Intensives are an opportunity for poets and writers at any stage of their careers to delve deep into the art and craft of your writing practice in a small group (max 5 writers per intensive) with the guidance of one of our esteemed Alumni-in-Residence ('Pemi Aguda, Cynthia Arrieu-King, Alina Grabowski, and Noor Hindi).

Please provide a statement of around 300-500 words addressing these questions:

  • What do you hope to work on during your intensive; what excites you about that project?
  • What does being a valuable member of a writing community look like to you?
  • What (if any) identities or experiences inform your work?
